INTERESTING FACTS

CRIMSON ROSELLA (Platycercus elegans)

One of Australia’s most familiar native parrots, the Crimson Rosella is a regular visitor to many parks & gardens along the east & southern coasts of Australia.

Nesting mainly is eucalypt & woodland areas, the medium to large sized member of the rosella family is also known as the Mountain Lowry.brd1001fact1.jpg

A colourful red parrot with a broad tail & distinctive blue cheek patches, the Crimson Rosella breeds from September to January & will nest in the cavity of tall eucalypt trees, where it will lay between five to eight white rounded eggs.

Often found in pairs or small groups, the Crimson Rosella is known to quietly forage on the ground or in trees for seeds & fruits.

Though generally friendly to humans, Crimson Rosellas can become aggressive to each other while feeding except when a King Parrot is present.
