INTERESTING FACTS
AUSTRALIAN BOTTLEBRUSH
The common name “bottlebrush” is used to describe a number of plants within the Myrtaceae family because the form of their flower head is usually brush-like.
As members of the genus Callistemon, there are 32 species of Bottlebrush currently classified & the majority of these are native to the eastern states of Australia. ozf1001fact.jpg
With flower colours ranging from white to mauve, pink, purple & red, the Bottlebrush forms hundreds of flower spikes from small woody fruits.
A popular addition to many Australian gardens, the Bottlebrush is a very tolerable & hardy shrub that will grow up to 4 metres tall & readily attracts native birds that feed on nectar.
When not in flower, the Bottlebrush is a beautiful, glossy bush covered with small, dark green leaves.
Grown best in moderately drained fertile soil, the natural habitat of the Bottlebrush is along creek beds and areas prone to flooding.
